Reports to: Senior DevOps Manager

Job Overview

Aquis Exchange is seeking a highly capable Cloud & DevOps Engineer to help shape, optimise, and scale our infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who is deeply passionate about automation, efficiency, and building resilient systems. You’ll join a small, expert DevOps team working across low-latency trading platforms, cloud environments, and on-prem systems—contributing to both strategic projects and hands-on engineering.

We are looking for someone who brings a strong sense of curiosity, excels in technical problem-solving, and is committed to designing systems that are robust, reproducible, and thoughtfully engineered. The ideal candidate naturally seeks to refine processes, explore emerging technologies, and deliver reliable, high-quality solutions that contribute to the continual improvement of our platform.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Build and automate hybrid infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), with a primary focus on container platforms and Kubernetes/OpenShift environments.
  • Continuously improve automation across containerised, on-prem, and cloud environments using Ansible, Python, and supporting tooling.
  • Collaborate with Development and Infrastructure teams to productionise new technologies and workflows, with particular emphasis on container-native and GitOps patterns.
  • Champion and help steer architectural decisions with an emphasis on container orchestration, automation, reliability, and operational excellence.
  • Support internal teams with build pipelines, CI/CD systems, OpenShift/Kubernetes workloads, and developer tooling.
  • Assist Linux engineering with deployment, configuration management, and systems operations at scale across containerised and virtualised environments.
  • Lead capacity planning and ensure container platforms and supporting environments remain scalable across Dev, QA, Test, and Production.
  • Maintain clear, current, and high-quality documentation of systems and processes.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Significant experience at a senior level designing, implementing, and operating Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms, ideally across hybrid on-prem and multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar).
  • Advanced DevOps experience including CI/CD, GitOps workflows, container image management, monitoring, and automation.
  • Strong Linux system administration (RedHat/CentOS or similar), including experience underpinning OpenShift deployments.
  • Demonstrable and extensive scripting/automation experience: Terraform, Python, Bash, Ansible.
  • Strong experience with Git, GitLab, and container-native deployment pipelines (Helm, ArgoCD, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPNs, and container networking/service mesh).
  • Proven, hands-on experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift); familiarity with cloud-managed equivalents (ECS/ECR, GKE) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design patterns, automation best practices, and configuration management principles in containerised environments.
  • Database familiarity (MySQL, QuestDB, Elasticsearch).
  • Strong communication skills — clear, detailed, and pragmatic.

About Aquis Exchange

Aquis Exchange (“Aquis”) is Europe’s challenger exchange, creating better markets for a modern economy. Aquis has market-leading technology and innovative rules for trading, and offers primary listings and secondary trading of equities, along with global licensing of proprietary technology.

Aquis consists of four divisions:

  • Aquis Markets operates lit and dark order books, covering 16 European markets. For its lit books, Aquis uses a subscription pricing model which works by charging users according to the message traffic they generate, rather than a percentage of the value of each stock that they trade.
  • Aquis Technologies is the software and technology division of Aquis. It focuses on building better markets via the creation and licensing of cutting-edge, cost-effective exchange infrastructure technology and services, including matching engine and trade surveillance solutions.
  • Aquis Stock Exchange (“AQSE”) is a stock market providing primary and secondary markets for equity securities. It is authorised as a Recognised Investment Exchange, which allows it to operate a regulated listings venue. The AQSE Growth Market is divided into two segments ‘Access’ and ‘Apex'; the Access market focuses on earlier stage growth companies, while Apex is the intended market for larger, more established businesses.
  • Aquis Data generates revenue from the sale of data derived from Aquis Markets and Aquis Stock Exchange to non-Member market participants.

Aquis is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and France's Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution and L’Autorité des marchés financiers to operate Multilateral Trading Facility businesses in the UK & Switzerland markets and in EU27 markets, respectively. Aquis is part of SIX: the provider and operator of stable and efficient infrastructure for the Swiss and Spanish financial centres.
