Overview: The Business Development Manager (BDM) will play a key role in driving business growth and expanding our market presence across the UK. This position is designed to be an important link between the specification sales team, product management, marketing, and technical departments, ensuring seamless communication and coordination between all teams. The BDM will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building and nurturing client relationships, and supporting the development of strategic sales initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Sales: Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the UK flat roofing market, targeting key industry players, contractors, and specifiers. Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and potential clients. Actively engage with architects, consultants, and other influencers to increase specification of our products. Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify areas for growth and product innovation. Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve business targets and drive revenue growth.
- Collaboration with Internal Teams: Serve as the key liaison between the specification sales team, product management, marketing, and technical departments. Work closely with the product management team to provide market insights and assist in the development of new products and services. Collaborate with the marketing department to create impactful campaigns and materials that promote our products and brand. Engage with the technical department to ensure that customer requirements are met and that technical support is provided when necessary.
- Customer Engagement & Relationship Management: Regularly meet with clients and prospects to understand their needs and deliver tailored roofing solutions. Provide exceptional customer service and post-sales support to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and deliver the Carlisle Experience. Coordinate with the sales team to deliver on the company's strategic objectives and client expectations.
- Market Analysis & Reporting: Monitor and report on sales performance, competitor activity, and industry trends. Provide regular updates to senior management on progress against targets and key business development opportunities. Analyse customer feedback and work with internal teams to continuously improve product offerings and customer satisfaction.
- Training & Knowledge Sharing: Act as a product expert for the specification sales team, providing technical guidance and training as needed. Stay up to date with industry standards, best practices, and regulations in the flat roofing sector.

Key Requirements
- Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within the construction, building materials, or roofing industries (preferably flat roofing).
- Strong understanding of the UK roofing market, including key customers, trends, and technical aspects of flat roofing systems.
- Ability to engage with key stakeholders, including architects, contractors, and specifiers, to drive product specification and sales.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues alike.
