Company Overview
Aquilar Ltd is a UK-based specialist in leak detection technology, supplying and supporting systems for water, fuel/oil, chemical and refrigerant gas leak detection across commercial, data centre, petrochemical and industrial applications. Aquilar is the long-standing UK partner for TraceTek and Aquitron systems, and its products are widely specified to help projects achieve BREEAM credits (including WAT03 and POL1). Aquilar is part of n-Industries Group.
Purpose of the Role
Aquilar is seeking an experienced, technically credible Specificiation Sales Manager to drive new business across London, the UK's most active market for the specification and installation of leak detection systems. The role sits at the intersection of technical consultancy and commercial sales: building relationships with specifiers, consulting engineers, architects and main contractors, and converting technical credibility into new client wins.
This is a hunter role. The successful candidate will be expected to build a strong pipeline of new specifier relationships and end-user clients, working London's built-environment community intensively and in person.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage relationships with M&E consultants, building services engineers, architects and specifiers (e.g. firms such as Buro Happold, Chapman BDSP, Arup and Cundall), positioning Aquilar's water, fuel and gas leak detection solutions at the specification stage of projects.
- Provide technical and commercial support throughout the sales cycle: interpreting project requirements, advising on suitable TraceTek, Aquitron, AquiWave, AquiNet and EcoLeak system configurations, and supporting BREEAM-related credit requirements (WAT03, POL1).
- Proactively identify, qualify and win new business opportunities across commercial, data centre and industrial projects in London, with a strong focus on new client acquisition.
- Prepare and present technical proposals, specifications and quotations, working closely with the internal technical and operations team.
- Represent Aquilar at project meetings, site visits, CPD sessions and industry events across London.
- Maintain accurate pipeline and client records and report on sales activity and forecasts to the Managing Director.
- Stay current on competitor products and market developments in the leak detection sector to support Aquilar's ongoing growth strategy.
Candidate Profile
Experience
- 3-5 years' experience in a technical sales, specification sales, and/or business development role, ideally within building services, M&E, fire/life safety, or a related built-environment sector.
- A proven, demonstrable track record of winning new clients and hitting or exceeding sales targets.
- Experience selling to, or working alongside, consulting engineers, architects and specifiers is strongly preferred.
- Existing relationships within the London specifier community (consultants, contractors, main contractors) would be advantageous.
- Strong technical background capable of providing advice, designs and quotations without the need for additional support.
Technical Background
- A genuine technical background - this could come from engineering, building services, M&E, or a related technical discipline - sufficient to hold credible technical conversations with consulting engineers and specifiers.
- Ability to quickly learn and confidently discuss Aquilar's product range (water, fuel/oil and refrigerant gas leak detection systems).
- Help define future products in line with market requirements and potentially opening new markets for Aquilar.
Skills and Attributes
- Hungry, self-motivated and driven to land new business; comfortable with a target-led, new-business-focused remit.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the credibility and confidence to work with senior specifiers and technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of producing clear technical and commercial proposals.
- Highly organised and self-sufficient, comfortable managing a busy, largely autonomous field-based diary.
Location and Travel
- Must be based within approximately 30 minutes' public transport travel of London.Need the commute to London to be cost and time efficient - maximising face time within office hours is the goal without causing the employee to spend excessive time outside office hours commuting.Paying for relocation is not an option.
- Comfortable and confident navigating around London day-to-day via public transport.
- Willing and able to spend 4-5 days per week working across London (client meetings, site visits, specifier relationships), with occasional travel to Aquilar's Horsham office or other UK locations as required.
What Aquilar Offers
- The opportunity to represent a well-established, 25+ year specialist brand in a growing, technically interesting market.
- A genuinely consultative, technical sales role rather than a transactional one.
- Support from an experienced technical and operations team.
