The Role
The Lead Air Traffic Engineer (LATE) role is the lead equipment engineer for Aquila, at various Service Delivery and Service Enabling Sites, in accordance with site requirements as defined by the Marshall contract and in conjunction with any specific requests from the Duty Holder. The role is to undertake maintenance activities to ensure that all aspects of UK Service Operations Delivery for Aquila are carried out safely in accordance with all current CAA, MAA, MOD and Government legislative regulations to achieve the maximum equipment availability and avoidance of Service Penalty Deductions.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Deputise for the Senior Air Traffic Engineer (when unavailable/during leave periods) undertaking all relevant duties.
- The LATE is to liaise with the SATCO, or their authorised representative, for the restoration or removal of temporary technical and technical services, with due consideration to the Aquila business objectives.
- Will undertake on-call duties, to ensure of the availability of the temporary technical and technical services, on a rostered routine.
- The LATE has the responsibility to escalate serious technical service failures through the Aquila Service Desk to the National Incident Manager.
- The LATE is responsible for implementing all H&S, Risk, Quality, Environmental Protection and associated process within their operating area.
- Implement the On-the-Job Training programme for staff employed in their area of responsibility.
- Assist in the installation, commissioning, acceptance and decommissioning of Aquila assets.
- Manage the calibration of Specialist Tools and Test Equipment in their area of responsibility.
- Managing the documentation and configuration records applicable to the equipment in their area of responsibility, ensuring they are accurate and current, including the Junction of Maintenance for Infrastructure, Power, Networks and Communications.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute to meaningful work and play a part in helping the organisation achieve its objectives.
About You
We’re looking for a capable and professional individual who will have:
- Full, valid, UK driving licence - Essential
- Colour Vision Standard – CP2 – Essential
- Hold the ATSEP Core Competency (Basic & Shared) – Desirable
- Electronic engineering qualification to HNC/BTEC Level 3 or above or equivalent.
- Be willing and physically able to climb and work at height.
- Experience in electronic engineering, ideally within an Air Traffic Management environment.
- Be adaptable, flexible and responsive to business needs, possibly at short notice and in alternative locations.
- Must be able to prioritise under pressure, be technically competent to work on a wide range of equipment and have a logical approach to problem solving.

Security Clearance Statement
Due to the nature of the work that we do, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a UK National and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. If approved by the MOD, a dual national from a Non-ITAR country may be considered.
