Aqua-Tech Recruitment are currently looking for a Water Efficiency Operative (or plumber's mate) to join a new water-efficiency project across Essex and Suffolk. This is a practical, field-based role where you will visit our existing commercial customers, including large supermarket chains, bars, gyms and other establishments, to help identify opportunities to reduce water consumption. You'll be visiting customer premises and checking areas such as sinks, taps, toilets and urinals to assess how efficiently water is being used. Where a simple improvement can be made, you'll be trained to install water-saving devices yourself. Where a job requires a qualified plumber, you'll identify the issue and report it to the plumbing team. You don't need to be a qualified plumber for this role as full training will be provided. We're looking for someone practical, reliable and confident dealing with customers who is happy working independently.
What You'll Be Doing
- Travelling to customer sites across Essex and Suffolk using a company vehicle.
- Working independently and managing your own daily workload.
- Visiting a wide range of commercial premises, including supermarkets, bars, gyms and other customer locations.
- Checking taps, sinks, toilets and urinals to identify opportunities to improve water efficiency.
- Carrying out basic water audits and recording your findings.
- Installing simple water-saving devices such as tap aerators and toilet cistern devices, following training.
- Checking existing water-saving systems and replacing batteries where required.
- Carrying out accurate water meter readings.
What We're Looking For
- You don't need to have formal plumbing qualifications. We're looking for someone who is:
- Practical and hands-on, ideally with some experience in maintenance, facilities, plumbing, engineering or another similar environment.
- Comfortable working alone and managing your own workload.
- Customer-facing and confident communicating with people at different types of premises.
- Reliable, punctual and self-motivated.
- Organised and able to prioritise your daily workload.
- Comfortable using a PDA, tablet or smartphone to record information and complete jobs.
- Accurate when recording readings, notes and other information.
- Able to follow instructions and procedures.
- Safety-conscious with a good understanding of Health & Safety.
- Willing to learn new skills and undertake training.
- Comfortable travelling throughout Essex and Suffolk.
Essential Requirements
- Full, clean driving licence.
- Must be aged 25 or over due to company vehicle insurance requirements.
- Able to work 40 hours per week.
- Willing and able to work independently across Essex and Suffolk.
- Good customer-facing and communication skills.
- Comfortable using PDA/tablet-based systems and mobile applications.
You will be provided with:
- All required equipment and training
- Hotels and meals paid for in line with our expenses policy
- Opportunity to develop practical plumbing and water-efficiency skills
- Varied work across a range of established commercial customers
- Start date: 1 October 2026
Why Join Us?
This is a great opportunity for someone with a practical background who wants to get out on the road, work with different customers and develop new skills. Every day will be different. You'll be visiting different sites, identifying ways to save water, carrying out straightforward installations and working alongside qualified plumbers when more specialist work is required. If you're hands-on, reliable, customer-focused and comfortable working independently, we'd love to hear from you.
