As a Subject Sector Lead, you will bring your subject expertise to the heart of curriculum and assessment reform. You will influence policy, shape qualifications, and ensure that learner assessments reflect the real needs of students, teachers, and employers. Motivated by a desire to enhance how history is taught and remembered in schools What will you be doing? You will be the subject expert in History , shaping qualifications and influencing national education policy. You will stay ahead of curriculum changes and sector trends, guiding AQA’s strategies. You will collaborate with colleagues across product, policy, research, and marketing to embed your expertise in our work. Building relationships with schools, MATs, professional bodies, and government contacts will be key. You will represent AQA in national conversations, contribute to reform, and help shape the future of education. Full Job Description Summary The Subject Sector Lead plays a pivotal role in shaping AQA’s influence and innovation within the subject sector landscape. Working closely with the Head of Product (Subjects), this role involves gathering and applying deep sector insights to inform product development, policy engagement, and strategic positioning. The aim is to establish AQA as a thought leader in education and ensure our qualifications meet evolving needs. The role requires a passion for the subject and proven experience in influencing stakeholders to shape future qualifications. The ongoing curriculum and assessment review seeks to modernize the national curriculum, making qualifications more inclusive and reflective of student learning, social, technological, and economic changes, while maintaining high standards and equity. This is both a challenge and an opportunity to influence reform and keep qualifications relevant, inclusive, and aligned with future learner, educator, and employer needs. Key Responsibilities Strategic Collaboration & Insight Development: Collaborate with the Head of Product to identify trends, lead influence strategies, and ensure alignment with organisational goals. Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with educators, institutions, industry bodies, and regulators; gather and synthesize market intelligence. Thought Leadership & Innovation: Produce insights, papers, and presentations; inspire innovative qualification and assessment approaches. Policy & External Affairs Alignment: Work with policy and external teams to shape campaigns, influence government and regulators, and support advocacy. Product Development Support: Provide sector insights to enhance qualification design and market relevance, contributing to product planning and review. To succeed, you will need proven experience in subject research, education policy, or curriculum development, strong stakeholder skills, excellent communication, and a strategic, collaborative mindset.
