Behind every successful exam series, is a dedicated group of Centre Inspectors and we are looking for people across the UK to join them in this unique opportunity. Centre Inspectors, on behalf of the JCQ Awarding Bodies, undertake visits to check that centres are administering exams in line with relevant examination rules, thus ensuring that students across the country receive fair and equal examination conditions.

Working with our JCQ Partners, AQA is responsible for bringing in and training Inspectors to work across the country every year. You would have the chance to work flexibly and give something back to your local area, whilst being reimbursed for your time and travel.

As an Inspector your key duties when visiting centres will be to:

  • ensure the integrity of the examination process by checking that JCQ regulations are being applied consistently
  • provide general advice and guidance, where necessary, to centre staff during visits
  • provide written feedback to both the centre and the JCQ Centre Inspection Service team on a centre's compliance with JCQ regulations

Your work allocation as an Inspector will be:

  • inspections from April to November, inclusive of training; with the peak of visits happening from May to June to visit 2 centres per half day during the exam series; which amounts to a full day
  • visiting between 50-80 centres, within reasonable travelling distance of your home

It is crucial that as an Inspector you:

  • have recent previous experience of the examination process; either within a centre as Examinations Officer, Deputy Head, Head, or equivalent relevant experience within an Awarding Body
  • do not have any other work commitments which might impact on your availability or cause any conflict of interest during the inspection process - you cannot be currently employed within a school or college
  • can communicate effectively and work calmly under pressure
  • have a full driving licence (this may be waived for Central London)
  • have access to a private PC with broadband internet

Being an Inspector can benefit you by:

  • having expected earnings of between Β£1500-4000 a year (payment is made in accordance with a schedule of fees)
  • giving an opportunity to share your expertise and experience
  • providing a flexible role as a self-employed contractor within the education sector

If you, like us, see being a Centre Inspector as a worthy role that you would like to undertake, then we would welcome an application. This is made through our Workday application portal and successfully shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview with our Centre Inspection Services team.

We are looking for Inspectors in the following areas: Berkshire/Hampshire, Devon/Dorset, East Kent, Hertfordshire, Lincolnshire/East Riding of Yorkshire, London (North, North West, South East & West), South Gloucestershire, Somerset, Staffordshire/Warwickshire.

However, if there is no allocation in your area we will keep a successful application for 18 months for future consideration. Needs of the role (location, quotas etc) may change during the recruitment process. Therefore candidates should note that while all effort is made by the JCQ Team to review applications in a timely manner, interviews may not occur for some time after and regions may have changed in the interim.

Please note, you will not be an employee of AQA or JCQ; this role is offered for the provisions of services as a Contractor.
