Aptive Resources is seeking skilled Medical Technicians (Phlebotomists) to support the VA Central Western Massachusetts (VA CWM) Medical Center. This role is integral in ensuring high-quality laboratory services, including phlebotomy and specimen processing, for Veterans receiving care at the facility. Contract staff will perform laboratory tasks that align with state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment standards, meeting or exceeding nationally recognized guidelines.

Work Schedule/Shifts: Dayshift availability between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM (e.g., 6:00 AM–2:30 PM, 10:30 AM–7:00 PM). Overtime may be required, but no holidays, on-call, or standby duties are expected.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient phlebotomy, including inpatient ward rounds, outpatient services, Emergency Department (ED) draws, STAT, ASAP, and timed draws.
  • Conduct sample processing and preparation for send-out testing.
  • Safeguard patient safety by verifying identification prior to sample collection and testing.
  • Secure and protect electronic and paper-based patient information.
  • Identify, document, and resolve issues related to collection, processing, testing, or reporting.
  • Deliver patient-centered care in a professional manner, ensuring satisfaction among all stakeholders.
  • Adhere to Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines and other recognized standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of recent phlebotomy experience.
  • Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an American Heart Association (AHA)-approved vendor.
  • Standards Compliance: Familiarity with and adherence to standards set by The Joint Commission, ASCP, AMT, and other governing bodies.
