Role Overview:

  • To lead and manage a team of Senior Scientists and Pharmaceutical Analysts.
  • To provide scientific and technical leadership to project teams and clients.
  • Recognised point of contact within Nanopharm for problem solving in field of technical expertise.

Job Details / Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and leadership of Senior Scientists and Pharmaceutical Analysts.
  • Accountable for organising and planning project activities with your group utilising the most effective use of equipment, resources and skills dependent upon customer requirements.
  • Ensuring the scientific team working on projects within the group/project team are sufficiently trained and competent to perform the requested tasks.
  • Lead objective setting, performance evaluations and the generation of personal development plans for your team.
  • Participate in the recruitment process of new team members.
  • Provide support and supervision, as required to team members to ensure experimental tasks are carried out with scientific rigour and in accordance with appropriate SOPs.
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Department as required, representing your team and presenting a broad overview of progress, successes and challenges as requested.
  • Accountable for identifying and training needs for the team and notifying your Head of Department to ensure robust training plans are put in place.
  • Ensuring absences are logged and tracked in the system and diligently approved in a reasonable amount of time.
  • Creating a work environment that ensures good retention of staff, with low levels of turnover, within areas of your control.
  • Accountable for the on-time completion of annual/periodic appraisals for your direct reports.

Science & Research:

  • Providing scientific and technical leadership to project teams and clients.
  • Provide training (either externally or internally) in specialist or scientific skills.
  • Technical expert in data analysis/manipulation and assessment/interpretation in specialist area.
  • Make comprehensive records of all work and write/review formal reports.
  • Author and review material intended for publication including peer reviewed journals.
  • Build and maintain awareness of external experts, new technologies within specialist area and make recommendations for use within Nanopharm.
  • Perform research and development activities, delivering new technologies, processes or knowledge as agreed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate and lead continuous improvement programs throughout Nanopharm.
  • To identify inefficiencies and improvements in workflows, processes and systems honestly and promptly.
  • To complete improvement projects on-time, to-track and in-full, where assigned.

Customer Service:

  • Identify and deploy efficiency gains in core areas of expertise and group that facilitate project delivery.
  • Attend project team meetings as area expert supporting the team members and the clients fully.
  • Lead by example, treating our customers ethically, with respect and demonstrating exemplar levels of honesty and integrity with the work we do.
  • Ensuring reports and data are presented to the highest levels of quality with the minimum of errors and changes required.

EDUCATION, Experience & RELEVANT Skills:

  • Preferably a first degree in a science, pharmacy or relevant discipline of grade 2.1 or above.
  • Experience in Inhalation/respiratory product development or research.
  • Proven track record on successfully managing a team in a fast pace results orientated environment.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and expertise within specialist field.
  • Excellent influencing skills to ensure full team alignment.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex scientific concepts and data sets.
