My client is seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and self-motivated Commercial Gas Engineer to join their growing team. The role involves providing expert planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive breakdown support, diagnostics, repair, and installation services for a wide range of commercial and industrial boiler systems across client sites in London and the South East. The Commercial Gas Engineer will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the clients' heating systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on commercial and industrial boiler plant and associated heating systems.
  • Respond promptly to reactive breakdown calls, diagnose faults accurately, and execute effective repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Conduct meticulous fault-finding on electrical, mechanical, and gas/oil components of boiler systems.
  • Carry out boiler installations, commissioning, and de-commissioning as required.
  • Perform comprehensive combustion analysis and ensure optimal boiler efficiency and compliance.
  • Execute gas safety inspections and maintain all necessary certifications and records.
  • Identify and rectify defects on pumps, valves, plate heat exchangers, flue systems, and control panels.
  • Provide clear and concise technical reports on work completed, parts used, and any further recommendations.
  • Ensure all work is carried out to the highest standards of safety, quality, and in compliance with industry regulations (e.g., Gas Safe, OFTEC, LOLER, COSHH, CDM).
  • Liaise directly with clients, providing professional advice, updates, and excellent customer service.
  • Manage vehicle stock and ensure accurate inventory records.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota as required.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, particularly regarding health and safety.
  • Maintain the company vehicle, tools, and equipment in good working order.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Full current Commercial Gas Safe accreditations including: COCN1 (Core Commercial Gas Safety), ICPN1 (Installation of Commercial Pipework), CIGA1 (Commercial Indirect Fired Heating Appliances), CDGA1 (Commercial Direct Fired Heating Appliances), TPCP1A or TPCP1 (Testing & Purging of Pipework), CORT1 (Commercial Overhead Radiant Tubes & Appliances) – desirable but not essential.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heating & Ventilation, Gas Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (minimum 5 years) as a Mobile Commercial Gas Engineer working on commercial/industrial boiler systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across a range of boiler manufacturers and types.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations pertinent to boiler operations.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.

Desirable:

  • Oil Fired Appliance qualifications (OFTEC).
  • Unvented Hot Water qualification (G3).
  • Basic electrical qualifications (e.g., 18th Edition Wiring Regulations).
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) for boiler control.
  • Relevant manufacturer training certifications.
