Senior Solution Architect (Techno Functional) to support and evolve the global R&D digital landscape for a global manufacturing business, with a primary focus on Siemens Opcenter RD&L (Product Lifecycle Management) and Planview Innovation Portfolio Management (IPM). This role will own the end to end solution, data and integration architecture for Opcenter, ensuring alignment with R&D business processes, enterprise architecture standards and downstream systems such as ERP. The Solution Architect will play a critical role in ongoing deployments, regional rollouts, ERP integrations, and local extension solutions, acting as a trusted advisor to R&D, Digital, and Delivery teams. The role requires a strong blend of functional R&D domain knowledge and deep technical architecture capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Solution & Architecture Ownership
- Act as Solution Architecture owner for R&D PLM/IPM platforms, primarily Siemens Opcenter RD&L and Planview IPM.
- Define, maintain and evolve the solution architecture, data model and integration patterns for Opcenter across global and local deployments.
- Ensure solutions align with Enterprise Architecture principles, security, data governance, and integration standards.
- Produce and maintain architecture artefacts including: Solution Architecture Documents, Data and Integration Models, Interface specifications, Non functional requirements.
- Data & Integration Architecture
- Own the Opcenter data and integration system model, including master data, transactional data and analytics needs.
- Design and govern integrations between Opcenter, ERP systems (e.g. SAP/JDE), and downstream/upstream R&D, quality, and manufacturing systems.
- Provide architectural guidance on: API-based integrations, Event-driven and batch patterns, Data quality, lineage, and lifecycle management.
- Review and assure integration designs delivered by system integrators and vendors.
- R&D Digital Enablement
- Partner with R&D business stakeholders to translate scientific, formulation, packaging and innovation workflows into scalable digital solutions.
- Advise on best practice configuration and extension of Opcenter RD&L and Planview IPM to meet global and local R&D needs.
- Support innovation pipeline visibility, portfolio prioritisation, and governance through robust system design.
- Delivery & Deployment Support
- Support ongoing global and regional rollouts of Opcenter and Planview, including new sites and capabilities.
- Provide architectural oversight during implementation, testing, and cutover phases.
- Review solution designs, customisations and local extensions to avoid unnecessary technical debt.
- Act as an escalation point for complex solution, integration, or data issues.
- Governance & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key contributor to Architecture Review Boards (ARB) or similar governance forums.
- Work closely with Enterprise Architects, Data Architects, Product Owners, Delivery teams and external partners.
- Ensure reuse of enterprise building blocks and patterns wherever possible.
- Mentor and upskill internal teams on R&D solution and integration architecture.
Experience & Qualifications
- Many years of experience in Solution / Domain / Enterprise Architecture roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with R&D, PLM or ALM systems, preferably Siemens Opcenter RD&L.
- Proven experience designing complex integrations with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, JD Edwards).
- Deep understanding of data modelling, system integration and enterprise application landscapes.
- Strong techno functional capability, able to engage credibly with both business and technical teams.
- Experience working in global, multi region deployments.
This is a contract role, that will require you to be onsite 2-3 days per week in West London.
