Role Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Site Manager to oversee operations at our facility in Alderley Edge. The Site Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all activities are conducted efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company standards. This role requires strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in site management and possess excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

Operations

  1. Liaise daily with commercial and technical departments at Head Office (Chichester, West Sussex).
  2. Agree the daily harvest, order, and production plans with Supply Chain.
  3. Plan fixed and seasonal labour requirements in conjunction with the Director of Growing from annual budget to weekly management of the team.
  4. Liaise closely with the Finance team in terms of forecast and actual spend across labour, maintenance, and other direct costs.
  5. Ensure all equipment is well maintained and operational. Ensure a PPM plan is in place and spares/new items are organised.
  6. Ensure that work standards are in line with the company quality of work.
  7. Always maximise productivity levels, resulting in the maximum marketable yield from all crops.
  8. Recommend and implement new techniques always ensuring best practice.

People:

  1. Organise the staff rota, managing absence and annual leave in a consistent way that provides the operation with the staff required.
  2. Analyse motivational techniques on site and focus on best practice for overall site benefit.
  3. Coach and develop Direct Reports & Team leaders ensuring attention to detail and a ‘Doing it right first-time’ approach in conjunction with a robust appraisal system.
  4. Role model the company Values and Ethos.
  5. Liaise closely with the Director of Growing on individual and team performance; proactively addressing poor performance, attendance, and probationary periods.
  6. Lead disciplinary processes within the Nursery, in line with Company policy.
  7. Promote health & wellbeing and utilise appropriate support mechanisms, including occupational health.
  8. Set up/maintain staff forums.

Audits:

  1. Manage and carry out internal audits. Facilitate external audits.
  2. Ensure compliance with all company and statutory H&S requirements on site.
  3. Ensure quality standards and consistency of work across the site and develop and improve this where practical.

Skills & Experience:

  1. Strong leadership abilities with experience in managing and coaching teams effectively.
  2. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and drive results through the team in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Proficient in problem-solving with a proactive approach to identifying potential issues before they escalate.
  4. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
  5. Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to the industry.
  6. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility when required.
  7. Industry knowledge an advantage.
  8. FLT licence.
  9. PA1 PA6 PASC licence an advantage.

Role dimensions

  1. Team: 10 full-time employees plus agency staff (c.30 in peak season).
  2. Site size: 4.5 Hectares.
  3. 1 in 4 site and duty weekend work.
