Info about what the Hardware Technician role entails The Hardware Technician will be working on site predominantly in Manchester, supporting upgrades from 4G to 5G communications units at train depots.
Working largely independently, you will receive communication units removed from trains, disassemble them, replace hardware including 5G modem modules, install and configure updated software, carry out functional testing and prepare completed units for refitting.
The role will also involve basic fault finding and triage, packaging faulty equipment for repair, recording work completed and liaising with depot personnel and engineer.
It is a practical, hands-on position requiring good IT/hardware skills, attention to detail, confidence using hand tools and basic software/Linux commands, with initial training and familiarisation provided.
Hours are expected to be highly flexible at approximately 15 30 hours per week, depending on train availability and depot scheduling.
