Are you a School Caretaker looking for your next step? Ready to lead a small team and take more responsibility? If so, this could be an ideal opportunity. I'm supporting Newman RC College, an 11-16 secondary school in Oldham / North Manchester, with the appointment of a Permanent Estates Manager. The school has a large, busy site and a strong, supportive staff culture.

This role offers long-term stability, structured support and the chance to take ownership of the school estate in a visible, hands-on position. You'll be a key part of the wider support team, helping to ensure the site runs smoothly every day for students and staff. Applications are welcomed from candidates of any faith, or none.

Important details:

  • Salary: £34,432 - £38,218 (Grade 6)
  • Full-time, all year round
  • 37 hours per week, approximately 08:00-16:00

Key responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day condition and operation of the school site
  • Supervise two facilities team members and oversee on-site PFI staff
  • Carry out regular checks to ensure standards of work and cleanliness are maintained
  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs and planned improvement works
  • Lead on site health and safety, including inspections, risk assessments and compliance
  • Manage fire safety arrangements, emergency procedures and first aid provision
  • Work alongside catering services to support safe and effective delivery
  • Assist with premises budgets and longer-term site planning
  • Arrange rooms and spaces for exams, events and school activities
  • Deal confidently with urgent site issues as they arise
  • Build positive working relationships with contractors, colleagues and external partners
  • Support environmental and sustainability improvements across the site

You will need to:

  • Have experience working in facilities, premises or site management
  • Be confident supervising staff and coordinating day-to-day site activity
  • Have a practical understanding of health and safety requirements
  • Be comfortable working with contractors and external providers
  • Be organised, reliable and confident using IT systems
  • Take a calm, solutions-focused approach when problems arise
  • Communicate well with staff, students and visitors
  • Demonstrate professionalism, initiative and pride in your work
  • Be committed to providing a safe and well-maintained learning environment
  • Provide positive references, including from a current employer

Desirable, but not essential:

  • A management or business-related qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Facilities or health and safety training (e.g. IOSH or NEBOSH)
  • Experience supporting catering or cleaning services
  • Awareness of PFI or contracted services
  • Some exposure to tendering or contract monitoring
