The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician Level II (Aviation) is responsible for performing day-to-day NDT inspections on aircraft and aircraft components in accordance with Applus UK Ltd approvals and customer/OEM requirements. The role involves delivering high-quality, timely inspections both in-house and at customer sites, including regular travel within the UK and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily NDT inspection tasks in line with client priorities, ensuring all work on aircraft and components is completed strictly to customer work instructions.
- Take ownership of allocated work assignments to ensure safe, effective, and timely completion within the planned schedule.
- Comply with all applicable Quality, Technical, and Health & Safety procedures on every job.
- Conduct and record all required calibration, control, and maintenance checks on NDT equipment.
- Certify all work accurately in accordance with customer purchase order requirements.
- Report any issues that may significantly impact departmental performance to the Aviation Team Leader or Operations Manager.
- Complete accurate job packs, timesheets, and invoice-related information daily for submission to the Aviation Team Leader/Operations Manager.
- Deliver the highest standard of inspection services in line with aviation industry expectations, ensuring customer confidence and trust.
- Provide customers with all required post-inspection documentation (EASA/CAA, FAA, Applus NDT reports, etc.) and represent the company professionally in accordance with internal quality procedures.
- Support continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives within the facility and assist the Aviation Operations Manager in developing new processes or improvements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years aeronautical experience within a Part 145 aviation maintenance environment.
- At least 12 months practical experience as an NDT Level II Technician.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Certified to Level II in at least two NDT methods (PT, MT, ET, or UT), qualified to EN4179/NAS410 or other accepted aviation authority standards.
- Strong attention to detail, high integrity, and a responsible attitude towards airworthiness and process accuracy.
- Competent computer skills and effective communication abilities.
- Willingness to travel overseas to support clients/OEMs as required.
- Prepared to work shifts, weekends, and participate in on-call rotations.
- Willing to work overtime when needed.
- Ability to obtain 5-year reference history for airside pass applications.
- Self-motivated team player with strong problem-solving skills.
- Practical, well-organised, and able to work independently as well as within a team.
