Since 1966, the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) has been dedicated to providing innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective educational programs and services to meet the diverse needs of children and adults in Greater Hartford. POSITION SUMMARY
The Receptionist at River Street Schools and Programs serves as the first point of contact for students, families, staff, visitors, and community partners, creating a welcoming, professional, and customer-focused environment. This position is responsible for managing front office operations, directing communications, coordinating administrative support activities, and assisting with daily program logistics. The Receptionist plays a key role in ensuring efficient office operations, supporting student arrival and dismissal procedures, maintaining organizational communications, and providing exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties/Responsibilities
- Answer and route incoming telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner, provide information to callers, take and relay messages, and respond to inquiries or direct requests to appropriate staff members.
- Greet, screen, and assist visitors, families, vendors, and community partners, ensuring adherence to visitor management and security procedures while directing individuals to the appropriate location or personnel.
- Provide administrative and clerical support, including preparing correspondence, photocopying and scanning documents, processing mailings, distributing incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining office supplies, and updating program directories and phone lists.
- Coordinate and submit facility and room reservation requests for meetings, trainings, and program events, ensuring space availability and appropriate logistical arrangements.
- Collaborate with transportation staff, program personnel, and families to support safe, efficient, and orderly student arrival and dismissal processes, including communicating changes and addressing transportation-related inquiries.
- Create, maintain, and regularly update staff event calendars and program-wide communications to support coordination and staff awareness of upcoming events and activities.
- Develop, format, and distribute staff newsletters and internal communications that highlight program reminders, important updates, upcoming events, staff achievements, and recognition initiatives.
- Monitor front office operations to ensure a welcoming, organized, and professional environment for visitors, students, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, family, and staff information and handle sensitive information in accordance with organizational policies and privacy requirements.
- Support special events, meetings, and program activities by assisting with communications, participant coordination, materials preparation, and logistical arrangements.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders through responsive customer service and effective communication.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 months general office procedures experience preferred.
