Long-Term (Everyday) Substitute Teacher at Willowbrook School

  • Reports to: Building Principal
  • Schedule: Every student attendance day for the 2026-27 school year
  • Paid time off: 2 sick days and 1 personal day with pay
  • Benefits: Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) participation as required; this position is not eligible for other district benefits except those required by state or federal law

Position Summary

District 30 is seeking a dedicated, flexible educator to serve as the Everyday Substitute Teacher at Willowbrook School. Unlike a day-to-day substitute, the Everyday Substitute reports to Willowbrook each student attendance day and is assigned wherever the need is greatest, providing continuity of instruction when classroom teachers are absent. This is a wonderful opportunity to become part of one school community: you will get to know our students, staff, and routines, and our students will benefit from a familiar, trusted adult in the classroom. On days when no classroom coverage is needed, the Everyday Substitute supports students and staff as directed by the principal.

School Hours and Expectations

  • Willowbrook School hours: 8:40 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
  • Arrive no later than 20 minutes before the start of the school day (8:20 a.m.)
  • Report each student attendance day; assignments are managed through Frontline Absence Management and/or Principal
  • Cover classes across grade levels and subject areas as assigned

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the absent teacher's lesson plans and translate them into developmentally appropriate learning experiences
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to meet students' needs
  • Create and maintain a positive, well-managed classroom where every child can learn
  • Supervise students in the classroom, throughout the building, and on school grounds
  • Leave detailed notes for the returning teacher about the day's activities, student behavior, and any incidents
  • Work cooperatively with Willowbrook staff and maintain the confidentiality of student information
  • Follow Board policies, district procedures, and school emergency protocols

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Substitute Teaching License or Professional Educator License registered in Region 05 North Cook ISC
  • Ability to implement lesson plans and adapt instruction to meet students' needs
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain standards of student behavior
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Flexibility in accepting assignments across grade levels and subject areas
  • Reliable daily attendance and the ability to work cooperatively with school personnel in a positive manner
  • Other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence, as the Board may specify
