What you’ll do

  • Conduct thorough inspections of mechanical components and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to assess the dimensions and tolerances of parts.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to understand the requirements for each component and ensure proper inspection processes are followed.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate records of findings, including any non-conformance reports and corrective actions taken.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues and implement improvements in manufacturing processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis on defects and work with relevant teams to develop solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in internal audits and assist in the development of quality assurance procedures and protocols.
  • Train and mentor junior inspectors and production staff on quality standards and inspection techniques.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in inspection technologies to enhance the inspection process.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during inspection activities and promote a culture of safety within the team.
  • Assist in the preparation of quality reports for management review and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in regular communication with suppliers to address quality concerns and ensure that incoming materials meet specifications.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Inspector or in a similar quality control role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Proficiency in using various measuring tools and equipment for inspection purposes.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems is highly desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills to identify defects and discrepancies.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and report findings.
  • Proficient in using computer software for documentation and reporting, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet inspection deadlines.

Nice to have

  • Certification in quality control or inspection, such as CQI or CQA, is a plus.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and techniques.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a quality department.
  • Knowledge of CAD software for reviewing engineering designs.
