As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you will coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.
Applied Materials UK employees support local installations of Applied semiconductor equipment with maintenance and advanced support services. We also engage in continued market development activities, provide important business services for many of Applied’s European operations and participate on behalf of the company in the expansion and vitality of pan-European research and business organizations.
We are currently looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our team. This role will be to support our customer in Derry/Londonderry but may occasionally require travel to other customers in UK and Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- You will be responsible for completing quality repairs and actively responding to fab issues by communicating with other engineers and participating in escalation conference calls.
- You will have the opportunity to initiate or participate in projects to drive down costs or increase uptime. In addition to this you will carry out action plans and report findings.
- You will be required to follow checklists and procedures and ensure correct procedures and schematics are available prior to performing work.
- You will perform retrofits on equipment and assist in process issues.
- You will be expected to assume responsibility for full customer satisfaction assuring excellent relations. Demonstrating strong interest and knowledge of the customer’s business is important. This is achieved by building and maintaining customer satisfaction through clear, consistent communication and the sharing of collective knowledge.
- You will comply with all safety procedures and consistently demonstrate safety as a value.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is skilled in a range of semiconductor processes, procedures, systems and tool sets to carry out assigned tasks.
- Uses knowledge of how the team integrates with others to accomplish the team objectives.
- Builds and maintains customer satisfaction through clear, consistent communication and the sharing of collective knowledge.
- Provides informal guidance and support to more junior team members.
- Provides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on practice and existing precedents or procedures.
- Has experience of IT Systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Products).
- Is flexible to travel to UK or European customer sites when required (~20% of time, depending on overall activity requirements).
