About the Role:

The Mechanical Clerk of Works is responsible for overseeing and inspecting the installation, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems on construction projects. They act as the representative of the client or project manager, ensuring the mechanical work is completed according to the project specifications, relevant codes, and safety standards. There are also openings for Electrical Clerk of Works positions at the same facility and company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and other project documentation to understand the design intent and requirements
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor the progress and quality of mechanical installations, such as HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
  • Verify that materials, equipment, and workmanship comply with the approved specifications and drawings
  • Identify any defects or non-conformances and work with the contractors to ensure timely corrective actions are taken
  • Maintain detailed records of site inspections, test results, and any issues or deviations from the approved plans
  • Attend project meetings and provide updates on the status of the mechanical systems
  • Coordinate with other trades, such as electrical and building services, to ensure the mechanical systems are integrated properly
  • Review and approve contractor invoices and change orders related to the mechanical scope of work
  • Ensure the mechanical systems are tested and commissioned according to the project requirements
  • Provide guidance and support to the client or project manager on mechanical-related matters

About You:

  • Diploma or degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Clerk of Works/NEC3/NEC4 Supervisor or in a similar role
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and other technical documents
  • Strong knowledge of relevant building codes, regulations, and industry standards
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with contractors, clients, and project team members
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities
