Salary: From £37,570 per year with occasional overtime available + Call out Rates and Stand by payments

Standby payments: £24 per shift for being On-Call + hourly rate for call outs

Join our dedicated Fleet team as aWorkshop Chargehandand play a key role in maintaining and repairing a diverse range of vehicles NY Highways is responsible for. Based in Northallerton, this is your opportunity to support workshop operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety and service.

As a Chargehand you will…

  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on a wide variety of vehicles.
  • Diagnose faults using advanced diagnostic tools and prepare vehicles for MOTs.
  • Supervise workshop activities, ensuring safety procedures and quality standards are met.
  • Support the Workshop Controller with job card management and system updates (AssetWorks).
  • Promote a positive and safe working environment through toolbox talks, safety audits, and daily safety briefings.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a clean, professional, and efficient workspace.
  • Participate in a 24/7 call-out rota and assist with site inductions and contractor coordination.

To be successful in this role you will…

  • Hold a City & Guilds, NVQ, or BTEC qualification in HGV vehicle maintenance.
  • Have strong diagnostic skills across multiple vehicle brands and experience using diagnostic equipment.
  • Be able to work independently and flexibly across a wide range of tasks.
  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and support a team.
  • Hold a valid Class C HGV driving licence.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Be willing to travel to sites around North Yorkshire and work unsociable hours as part of the call-out rota.
