At NY Highways, you’ll gain real experience working on a large and varied fleet that helps keep the county’s road network running safely and efficiently. From day one, you’ll be part of a team learning how to service, maintain and repair vehicles in a professional workshop environment. No previous experience is needed just enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.
What you’ll be doing
- Carrying out vehicle servicing and safety checks
- Assisting with MOT inspections and identifying wear and tear
- Repairing and replacing engine and vehicle components
- Using diagnostic tools to identify faults
- Preparing vehicles for maintenance and ensuring they meet safety standards
- Following health and safety procedures in a workshop environment
You’ll gain experience working on a wide range of vehicles, developing both mechanical and problem‑solving skills.

About NY Highways
At NY Highways, we play a key role in maintaining and improving North Yorkshire’s road network of nearly 5,800 miles. As part of our team, you’ll be contributing to essential services that support communities across the county, all while building valuable skills for your future.
Apprenticeship standard: Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician. Training will include a combination of workplace experience and college learning.
Additional information
Due to the nature of this role, successful candidates will be required to:
- Work safely on vehicles and equipment used on public highways
- Undergo drug and alcohol testing in line with company policy
