As a Highways Operative Apprentice with NY Highways, you’ll work as part of a team maintaining and improving roads, pathways, and essential infrastructure across North Yorkshire. Work that helps keep communities connected and safe. No previous experience is needed; just a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.
What you’ll be doing
- Carrying out general highways maintenance and repairs
- Supporting installation of kerbs, paving, and drainage systems
- Assisting with road surfacing and concreting work
- Helping with traffic management and seasonal maintenance activities
- Working safely with tools, equipment, and machinery
- Following instructions from supervisors and working as part of a team
You’ll work in a variety of environments, from towns and villages to rural areas, whilst gaining a wide range of hands-on experience. Earn while you learn – gain a Level 2 qualification whilst getting paid.

We’re looking for individuals who are motivated and keen to learn. You will have:
- A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- A practical approach and willingness to get stuck in
- Aged 16 or over
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above), or willingness to achieve this
- A full UK driving licence or working towards it
