About the role

We are looking for an experienced service designer to join our growing team in Service Design and Digital Adoption. We need someone who can help teams understand how services really work, identify where they are falling short, and design practical improvements that make a difference to residents.

If you enjoy working across organisational boundaries, influencing change, and helping others adopt user‑centred approaches, we'd love to hear from you.

You will guide the design of complex services, helping teams understand user needs, navigate competing priorities and identify opportunities for improvement. You will champion good service design practice, leading workshops and helping teams tackle complex and ambiguous service challenges through a user‑centred approach.

The role offers hybrid working and you would be based at one of our key NYC hubs across the country, depending on which one is the most convenient for you.

About You

  • We are looking for an experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Service Designer.
  • You should have experience working in a service design role and a strong grounding in user‑centred design.
  • Have experience as a service designer, ensuring alignment with user needs and organisational objectives.
  • Be educated to degree level (Level 5) or equivalent experience.
  • Have experience selecting and applying service design methods from discovery through to implementation.
  • Have experience in leading the design of services within multidisciplinary teams and with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Possess a strong background in stakeholder engagement, with the ability to build positive relationships and influence senior colleagues to adopt user‑centred design principles.
  • Be comfortable working in complex environments, balancing competing needs and helping teams make informed decisions.
  • Have evidence of ongoing commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).

Please also highlight if you also have:

  • Understanding of the local government context, procedures, and relevant legislation relating to service operation.
  • Working knowledge of Government design principles and standards.
