We’re looking for a Principal Enforcement Officer to take a strategic and operational lead in delivering a proactive, customer‑focused planning enforcement service within one of England’s largest unitary authorities. Working within the Planning Service, you’ll play a vital role in protecting and enhancing the natural and built environment while supporting sustainable development and high‑quality places to live and work.
In this senior role, you will lead complex investigations, guide a team of professional officers and act as a trusted expert across the organisation and with external partners. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading on complex and high‑profile planning enforcement cases and managing a varied caseload
- Providing technical advice, supervision and support to enforcement staff
- Preparing and presenting evidence at appeals, hearings, public inquiries and court proceedings
- Working closely with legal services, elected Members and local communities
- Driving service performance, continuous improvement and customer‑focused outcomes
