Our Service

The purpose of our Service is to provide quality, affordable, healthy and sustainable homes that meet the present and future needs of all our tenants. The Housing Standards team is made up of five closely linked areas of housing expertise i.e., construction, repairs, improvements, contract management and safety. Each team consists of suitably qualified, skilled, and experienced trade operatives, surveyors, or contract supervisors.

The role

As a Team Leader, you are fundamental to ensuring the successful delivery of the Housing Service. This newly created role requires a proactive and pragmatic approach to ensure the council’s housing assets meet current and future statutory and regulatory requirements. You will manage and motivate a locality-based team, promoting high behavioural, quality and safety standards, and ensuring these are consistently adhered to.

The core focus of this role is to lead and manage a team of Surveyors, overseeing stock condition surveys, fire risk assessments, and the investigation of disrepair claims, ensuring the delivery of regulatory service standards across our portfolio of assets in line with Housing service levels, plans and strategies. This includes applying a strong knowledge of construction processes, materials and methods, alongside the ability to read and interpret drawings and plans to support effective decision‑making and delivery.

You will bring proven experience in a construction supervisory or team leader role, with excellent leadership and communication skills that enable you to effectively manage workloads, prioritise tasks and drive team performance. A strong understanding of health and safety legislation, with relevant qualifications such as CSCS and SMSTS or SSSTS preferred, will be essential in maintaining compliance and ensuring a safe working environment. In addition, you will demonstrate a problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach, enabling you to respond to challenges efficiently and support the continuous improvement of service delivery across the housing portfolio.

What you will bring

  • You will have knowledge of current best practice in social housing relating to tenant safety and the decent home standard.
  • Experience in delivering quality housing repair works along with excellent customer service skills.
  • You will have experience of managing a team with the ability to effectively prioritise, plan and organise workloads to ensure deadlines and targets are met.
  • Manage change and deliver continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills are a must, both written and oral with the ability to problem solve and find pragmatic solutions.
