Hours: 7:45am – 12:45pm, Monday to Friday (20 hours)
Contract: Temporary to 31st July 2027 in the first instance
Term time only (38 teaching weeks plus 1 week)

Northstead Community Primary School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate and resilient Attendance & Pastoral Support Worker to play a key role in improving pupil attendance and wellbeing. This role goes beyond administration and will focus on working directly with children and families, supporting and challenging where necessary to ensure all pupils attend school regularly and are ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with families to support and improve pupil attendance and punctuality
- Work in breakfast club 7:45 to 8:45 supporting children into school
- Conduct home visits where appropriate to address attendance concerns and support children and their families
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and families while maintaining clear expectations
- Provide both support and appropriate challenge to reduce persistent absence
- Identify barriers to attendance and work with families and staff to overcome them
- Deliver pastoral support to pupils in school, promoting wellbeing, confidence and readiness to learn
- Work alongside teaching staff to support vulnerable pupils and those at risk of poor attendance
- Contribute to school-wide strategies to promote good attendance and positive attitudes to school
- Liaise with external agencies where needed, including the attendance and enforcement team
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Have a good working knowledge of the current legislation and guidance around attendance in schools
- Be confident working directly with families, including in challenging situations
- Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships
- Be emotionally intelligent, with a calm and empathetic approach
- Be able to balance support with clear expectations and challenge
- Have experience working with children, families or in a pastoral role (desirable)
- Be resilient, solution-focused and committed to improving attendance and outcomes for children
- Understand safeguarding procedures and confidentiality
