Orchard House Care Home is a family-owned care home located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire that specialises in respite and long-term care.
One thing became abundantly clear: in 2025 there was a lack of good quality respite care available locally, and the people we were supporting and their families needed more than just a few hours’ respite per week.
Now at Orchard House, we can truly support people through a care journey that meets their needs for respite and long-term care.
We are registered with the Care Quality Commission as a residential care home for younger adults, people under and over 65, and for people living with dementia or complex needs.
- Job overview
- To provide day care in accordance with best practice and legislative requirements, reflecting policies and procedures and agreed standards under the direction of the Registered Home Manager.
- To support and enable individuals to maintain skills and personal interests whilst delivering personal care unique to each individual.
- To maintain skills at a current level, undertake such training and development as required to maintain and progress knowledge.
- To organize the support staff daily when on shift whilst considering the changing needs of individuals.
- To clearly set out the expectations for each shift and direct the team accordingly.
- To promote dignity, reflect respect and choice for individuals; ensuring teamwork within this ethos at all times.
- Role Specific duties
- To be accountable to the Registered Manager ensuring that they are kept informed of any concerns or changes to the health and wellbeing of individuals and staff.
- Ensure that care and support is provided for individuals in a timely way; upholding and improving standards of care delivery, calling on external parties when their skills are needed
- Take responsibility of management of personal healthcare stock for individuals.
- Be part of the ordering system, ensuring that stock is always of an adequate level, correctly & safely checked in and stored.
- To ensure that individuals have daily opportunities for meaningful occupation and activity.
- To work as a team to formulate and maintain a stimulating programme of activity for groups and individuals, considering likes and dislikes as appropriate (and to always ensure that we are delivering person centered support)
- To ensure that all support staff engage in the activity and occupation programme of Orchard House, supporting individuals’ involvement to enhance wellbeing and quality of life.
- To administer and store medication as required and to monitor the correct administration and documentation of medication on a daily basis.
- To observe the competency of the care team in administering medication.
- Promote and monitor the use of PPE within the team and maintain IPC procedures.
- Uphold and embed the company values and ethos at all times and act as a role model and be an exemplar to the support staff at all times.
- To have a good understanding of individuals needs and be able to respond effectively and responsively to changing needs.
- To ensure all care is delivered to the highest possible standard.
- Maintain the environment and high levels of housekeeping, ensuring all domestic duties are performed and recorded daily.
- Promote food hygiene practices in monitoring meal service, storage of foods and necessary documentation.
- Drive improvements in care delivery by upskilling the support staff, through observation and mentoring.
- Support and mentor new team members.
- To ensure the emotional and wellbeing of individuals at all times.
- Team work – cover shifts when required with a flexible working pattern and be part of the on call rota.
- To promote good communication among the team.
- To contribute to the care planning process for individual residents by sharing information.
- To ensure that all documentation completed by you and the support staff is done as near to the point of delivery, is accurate and includes information about how the person has spent their day, what activities they have completed and their overall wellbeing-documented.
- Promote CQC compliance.
- To ensure that all safeguarding procedures are always followed.

Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is essential.
You must be willing to work alternative weekends and be part of the on call rota..
The needs of the individuals we support can vary, and there may be occasions where additional responsibilities are required to ensure the highest standards of care are maintained.
Experience is required in the form of team leader/senior position.
Experience in care is also required.
Full training will be provided, including specialist training in Positive Behaviour Support and managing behaviours of concern.
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position.
