About the Role
Do you have experience in housing solutions or a related service? If so, then you are just the person we are looking for! We are looking for a Private Sector Housing Options Officer to join our Housing Needs Team to work closely with private landlords, to support residents of Hambleton and Richmond. The Council’s Housing Needs responsibilities include the management of the Housing Options and Homelessness Teams across the Localities, overseeing the provision of an efficient and effective housing options service and ensuring the Council meets its statutory obligations under the Housing Act 1996 Part 7, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and related legislation.
A key part of this involves assisting applicants to secure and move into private rented accommodation. As our Private Sector Housing Options Officer, you will provide private landlord liaison to develop and explore opportunities in the private rented sector for clients at risk of homelessness and households accommodated by the Council in temporary accommodation. You will work with clients to assist moves into independent private rented accommodation and provide support where needed. You will offer financial and budgeting advice to prospective tenants, including assistance with the completion of benefit/Universal Credit applications and enabling individuals to make choices over their expenditure. You will develop and review initiatives to improve sustainability and build relationships with external agencies to facilitate tenancy support and assistance. This role will play a key role in developing sustainable relationships with private landlords with accommodation in the Hambleton and Richmond locality and to provide advice and assistance to them to enhance the working relationship with the Council.

- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Good working knowledge of IT systems such as Microsoft Office.
- Safeguarding awareness.
- Ability to use your own initiative and make instant decisions offering sound advice.
- Ability to travel around the area.
- An Standard DBS is required for this position.
