The Waste and Street Scene department requires an enthusiastic and committed individual to undertake, usually as a member of a team, driving and loading duties connected with the collection of refuse and recycling.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate o-licence vehicles in and around the county
  • Supervise small crews in your dedicated area of the county
  • Responsible for the safe operation of Large Goods Vehicles (LGV) up to 26t
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean and in good working order
  • Collect residual waste, garden waste, food waste or recyclable materials from domestic and other properties
  • Have experience of operations of a large goods vehicle and a focus and knowledge of safe working practices and general Health and Safety principles

The role is based primarily at our Richmond Depot, with a requirement to work occasionally at our Northallerton depot. The rounds cover 500 square miles of countryside, rural villages and the relatively larger towns such as Richmond, Catterick, Leyburn and Hawes. This role can naturally lead onto further supervisor or operational management roles, or further development opportunities to move into another of our vast services.

You will be working in a supportive environment with regular supervision and many staff benefits. Shifts start at 06:00 am, with occasional weekend work for which you receive a £30 weekend allowance. The successful candidates will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours, with the ability to operate with the minimum of supervision, either independently or as a member of a team and be able to work on your own initiative. It will also be necessary to have a good understanding of the importance of a high level of customer care as your role as our Refuse/Recycling Driver is a hugely important one, being on the front‑line of a key service.
