Are you an Electrical Building Services Engineer looking to take the next step in your career at Senior Level? Due to our continued steady expansion, we now have the opportunity for a Senior Electrical Building Services Engineer to bring their experience, professionalism and enthusiasm to the Building Services team at Align Property Services.

At Align Property Services, we don’t just design buildings, we create spaces that matter. Recently recognised as Regional Energy Consultancy of the Year at the Yorkshire Energy Efficiency Awards for the second year running, we’re proud to be setting new benchmarks in sustainable design and innovation.

As a wholly owned subsidiary of North Yorkshire Council, we’re one of the largest and most respected building design consultancies in the North of England. Our collaborative, forward‑thinking team delivers a wide range of services, including:

  • Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
  • Building Surveying & Project Management
  • Quantity Surveying & CDM

From small scale surveys to multi‑million‑pound developments – including schools, fire stations, care homes and heritage buildings – our projects are as varied as our clients. With a strong and growing pipeline across both public and private sectors, there’s never been a better time to join us.

Our Building Services team has recently delivered a series of rapid‑response mechanical and electrical projects for Durham County Council, supporting their drive toward net‑zero carbon and improved building performance. Working across a diverse estate of schools, leisure facilities, libraries and community buildings, we’ve managed everything from early‑stage feasibility studies to major electrical and mechanical upgrades.

Through the NEPO Mechanical and Electrical Framework, the team successfully delivered ten projects, including schemes at Consett Branch Library, Coxhoe Active Life, Copeland Road Primary School, Shotton Primary Swimming Pool, Delves Lane Primary, Villa Real School and Rookhope Primary. These projects involved integrating renewable and energy‑efficient technologies such as solar PV, air source heat pumps, low‑energy lighting, fire alarm upgrades and modernised heating and electrical systems which were all completed with minimal disruption to essential services.

Every commission was delivered on time and to a high standard, improving building usability, reducing energy consumption and directly supporting the council’s sustainability objectives. If you’re excited by the opportunity to shape sustainable, impactful building services projects like these, we’d love to hear from you!

What You’ll be Doing

You will be responsible for providing a variety of services including those relating to building pathology, design, project management, building surveys and contract administration, as well as producing early design advice through to detailed electrical services design. You’ll have the opportunity to support and mentor our junior members of the team as they develop their skills and knowledge and look to you for your guidance.

As part of working on large projects, your day‑to‑day work will include:

  • Electrical condition surveys
  • Electrical design from concept to detail
  • Project management and contract administration
  • Providing early‑stage design advice and technical consultancy
  • Managing complex workloads and promoting collaboration across disciplines
  • Delivering smart, cost‑effective solutions that meet client expectations
  • Offering advice on Health & Safety, fire safety and sustainability throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations and best practice standards

  • Substantial experience in a senior engineering role
  • A commitment to professional development, ideally working towards MCIBSE
  • Confidence in conducting electrical surveys, defect analysis and feasibility reporting
  • High‑quality electrical designs and documentation across RIBA stages
  • A supportive leader to mentor colleagues while working collaboratively across disciplines
