Our Team

The Insurance & Risk Management Service is a dedicated team of specialists offering comprehensive advice, support, and claims handling services. We serve not only the Council but also our partner organisations, including the National Parks Authorities, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and the newly established Mayoral Combined Authority, and the Council’s wholly owned companies.

The role

As our Insurance and Risk Technician you will be involved in supporting key areas of work including:

  • Assisting with the arrangement of insurance requirements for the Council, its companies and customers including assistance with insurance renewals and tenders.
  • Assist with various projects to ensure that the Council, companies and customers continue to have the correct type and level of insurance.
  • Assisting with handling of insurance queries from all parts of the Council, companies and customers.
  • Handling of complex insurance claims and queries.

What you will bring

You should possess substantial knowledge and experience in commercial insurance practices. While a qualification in risk or insurance is preferred, we also welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience in these sectors or closely related areas. Training will be provided, and you will have the opportunity to gain a qualification. Ideally, you should also have experience in insurance, preferably within the public sector, and some experience in supporting and training staff. It would also be beneficial to have experience in Property and Housing insurance and claims.

You should possess excellent communication and customer care skills, with the ability to negotiate and influence best practice. Being well‑organized, flexible, and proficient in ICT is essential, along with strong literacy, numeracy, and attention to detail. You must be able to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines and demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
