Are you interested in the built environment and looking for a way into the construction industry? Do you enjoy problem-solving, working with people, and learning something new every day? At Align Property Services, we’re growing our CDM team and looking for a CDM Advisor to join us. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to move into Construction Design & Management (CDM), even if you’re at the early stages of your career. You don’t need to know everything on day one. This role is ideal for someone with a background or interest in construction, design, property, housing, maintenance, project delivery, facilities, or health & safety who wants to build a career in a specialist and in‑demand area. We’ll provide training, mentoring, and a clear development plan to help you grow into the role and build your confidence.
You’ll support our experienced CDM team in delivering CDM advisory and Principal Designer services across a wide range of construction and property projects. You’ll be involved in real projects from day one, learning how to identify and manage design and construction risks while supporting clients, designers, and contractors. This can be a development role, meaning you’ll gain hands‑on experience with the support of experienced professionals as your skills grow.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting day‑to‑day CDM coordination and project administration
- Gathering and organising pre‑construction information
- Assisting with design risk reviews and hazard identification
- Attending project and design meetings with senior colleagues
- Preparing CDM trackers, reports, action logs, and meeting notes
- Supporting communication between clients, designers, and contractors
- Helping maintain health and safety file information
- Learning how CDM Regulations (2015) apply in practice
- Building your understanding of design risk management and good project communication
You won’t be expected to take on statutory Principal Designer duties independently, you’ll learn this over time with full support.
What we’re looking for:
We’re less interested in ticking every box and more interested in your attitude and potential.
- Curious and eager to learn
- Well organised with strong attention to detail
- A clear communicator (written and verbal)
- Practical and solution‑focused
- Comfortable working with different people and managing information
Desirable (but not essential):
- NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS, SSSTS, HNC/HND, degree, trade, or similar
- Experience reading drawings, specifications, or risk assessments
- Experience working with contractors, consultants, or clients
- Basic awareness of CDM 2015
Training & development:
- Structured CDM 2015 training
- Mentoring from experienced CDM and Principal Designer professionals
- Project shadowing and hands‑on learning
- Training in design risk management
- Support towards relevant qualifications and professional development
- Gradual exposure to more complex projects as your confidence grows
Benefits:
- A competitive salary from £30,000 per year, dependent on your skills and experience.
- Enrolment into a company pension scheme with up to 6% contribution.
- 25 days holiday per year, plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase up to 10 additional leave days.
- Hybrid working to support you in a healthy work–life balance.
- Professional development through varying project work.
- A benefits scheme including a good maternity leave package, cycle‑to‑work scheme, and access to an online voucher portal.
- Access to Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme and Counselling Service.
- Stability in your role – public sector security in a private sector industry.
