At NY Highways, you’ll train as a Vehicle Technician while earning a salary, gaining real‑world experience from day one in a busy workshop environment. You’ll learn how to maintain and repair a wide range of vehicles that help keep North Yorkshire moving.

What you’ll be doing

As an Apprentice Vehicle Technician, you’ll build practical skills while working alongside experienced technicians. Your day‑to‑day tasks will include:

  • Carrying out vehicle servicing and safety checks
  • Assisting with MOT inspections and identifying wear and tear
  • Repairing and replacing engine and vehicle components
  • Using diagnostic tools to identify faults
  • Preparing vehicles for maintenance and ensuring they meet safety standards
  • Following health and safety procedures in a workshop environment

You’ll gain experience working on a wide range of vehicles, developing both mechanical and problem‑solving skills. By the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have the skills and confidence to work independently as a qualified technician.

Our Award‑winning apprenticeships

Apprenticeship standard: Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician. Training will include a combination of workplace experience and college learning. Many of our apprentices win awards and go on to secure permanent roles and develop successful careers with us!

You should have

  • An interest in cars, vans or mechanical work and how things work
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work well as part of a team
  • A problem‑solving mindset
  • Aged 16 or over
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above), or willingness to achieve this
  • A full UK driving licence, or working towards it
