The Organisation
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority was established as a new organisation in early 2024. It is a public sector employer with access to powers and funding to unlock transport and housing improvements, boost skills provision and help the economy transition to net zero for York and North Yorkshire. The Mayor also holds responsibilities in relation to Policing, Fire and Crime. The Opportunity
The Mayor of York and North Yorkshire is delivering an ambitious programme focused on economic growth, transport, housing, skills, health and net zero. We are looking for an enthusiastic and politically aware Engagement and Stakeholder Officer to join the Mayor's Office and help build meaningful relationships across the region. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a Mayoral Combined Authority, supporting engagement with local authorities, businesses, community organisations, government departments and public sector partners. You'll gain first-hand experience of devolution, public policy and regional leadership while helping to deliver the Mayor's priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the public, private, voluntary and community sectors.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of mayoral visits, engagement events, roundtables and consultations.
- Preparing high-quality briefings, correspondence, presentations and reports.
- Monitoring policy developments, government announcements and emerging issues affecting the region.
- Conducting research and gathering evidence to support policy development and decision-making.
- Maintaining stakeholder databases, engagement records and information systems.
- Representing the Mayor's Office at meetings and engagement activities where required.
About You
We're looking for someone who can combine excellent communication skills with strong organisational ability and a genuine interest in public policy and regional development. You will have:
- Experience of stakeholder, community or partnership engagement.
- Strong written communication skills with experience producing reports, briefings or presentations.
- The ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience coordinating meetings, projects or engagement activities.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Political awareness and an understanding of local government or public services.
Whether you're already working in local government, a public affairs environment, community engagement, communications or stakeholder relations, this role offers an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience and make a real impact. Flexible working may occasionally be required to support business needs. Attendance at events and meetings across the region will be required. This is a politically restricted post under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. You will be joining a new and developing organisation at an exciting time.
