We are looking for a motivated and passionate Children and Families Intervention Worker (Best Start in Life Practitioner) to join us, working in the Colburn and Catterick area of North Yorkshire. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in delivering North Yorkshire's Best Start in Life vision, supporting children, young people and families to access the right help at the right time and improving outcomes through early intervention and prevention.

North Yorkshire's Children and Families Service has developed a highly effective Strength in Relationships Practice Model, and you will work within this model to deliver strengths-based, relationship-focused interventions that empower families and build on existing family and community strengths.
About the role
We are looking to recruit an effective, resilient and highly motivated individual to join our Children and Families Service as part of our Best Start in Life Programme.
Working closely with Children and Families Service colleagues, health partners, early years settings, schools, voluntary and community organisations, the successful applicants will provide targeted intervention and support to children and families facing emerging challenges.
Working directly with families using a strengths-based approach, you will build positive relationships, identifying needs, and supporting sustainable change that improves outcomes for children and young people.
You will be willing to take on a challenge and have experience of working directly with children, young people and families. You will have strong communication and engagement skills, experience of building positive relationships, and the ability to work collaboratively with partners to coordinate support around families.
This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of the continued development of Best Start in Life – Family Hubs and wider family support services across the county. You will contribute to the delivery of innovative, community-based support that enables children and families to thrive.
- Experience of working directly with children, young people and families.
- Knowledge and understanding of child development, safeguarding and early help approaches.
- Experience of delivering targeted interventions and support plans.
- Experience of delivering group work, such as parenting support interventions.
- Strong communication, engagement and relationship-building skills.
- An ability to work effectively with families experiencing a range of challenges and vulnerabilities.
- Experience of working collaboratively with partners across agencies and sectors.
- A commitment to strengths-based and relationship-focused practice.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage a caseload effectively.

It is an exciting time in Children and Young People's Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementation for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future, and we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.
Note - The post is primarily in the Colburn / Catterick area with community-based delivery across the locality.
