Are you looking for a challenging and varied role in highways maintenance? Due to continued growth, NY Highways are looking to welcome a Highways Operative with LGV to be part of our team in our Area 6 Boroughbridge Depot. NY Highways provides road maintenance and construction across North Yorkshire’s network of almost 5800 miles. We operate in close partnership with North Yorkshire Council as well as being the provider of choice for private clients both in North Yorkshire and the neighbouring areas.
We are looking for a Highways Operative with LGV who has relevant skills and experience in highway maintenance to join the team based from our Boroughbridge depot. With a busy pipeline of projects to be involved with straight away, you will be part of the team making improvements across Boroughbridge and the surrounding areas.

You will work closely with a Ganger to carry out a wide range of skilled tasks including kerbing, drainage installation, patching, ironwork renewal, street furniture installation, and more. You'll also tackle general maintenance duties like site upkeep, traffic management, and roadside verge maintenance and operate specialist highways plant equipment and tools to complete maintenance and repair work.
This role will involve the driving and operating of vehicles above 7.5 tonne and carrying out vehicle safety checks. This role involves participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota for emergencies and winter maintenance activities, and therefore it is desirable that the successful candidate hold a current Drivers Licence with access to personal transport. It is essential for consideration for this role that you have a current valid Class 2 Drivers Licence (Category C), as the role involves driving and operating Long Goods Vehicles (LGV).
This role presents an exciting opportunity to take on larger and more complex projects in your area of expertise while using specialised highways plant equipment and tools for maintenance and repair work. This is a physically active role, requiring you to work outdoors in all weathers, therefore a reasonable level of fitness is required. You will be provided with full Personal Protective Equipment including outdoor clothing.
