Appleby Westward is the SPAR Wholesaler and Retailer covering the West of England. Our Retail Distribution Centre and Support Offices are based in Saltash, Cornwall, employing around 2,000 colleagues who support wholesale distribution operations for both independent retail estate and company‑owned retail stores, as well as work within our SPAR network. Our SPAR retail stores are the leading convenience brand, operating from Chichester in the east to Land's End in the west, and to Bristol and Salisbury in the north. We offer convenience goods, groceries, chilled foods, and food‑to‑go, along with essential local services such as Post Office, lottery, and online collection and delivery services, and pride ourselves on serving communities with efficient, quality customer service. We also support local charity and community initiatives, fundraising for organisations and our main charity partner Marie Curie.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service with pride, greeting customers with a smile and delivering excellent service.
  • Ensure store standards are maintained and the environment runs smoothly.
  • Use product knowledge and keep up with promotions to deliver a delightful shopping experience.
  • Execute transaction accuracy, including cash‑up tills, and safeguard company monies.
  • Own receiving, replenishing, and displaying stock.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and tidiness.
  • Ensure product quality and regulatory compliance with labelling and allergen regulations.
  • Comply with Age‑Related Sales regulations and Think 25 guidance.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety guidelines for colleague and customer safety.
