The Broadcast Operations Manager will oversee the technical and operational aspects of multiple live broadcast streams, ensuring seamless transmission and production. This role requires strong coordination with cross-functional teams, vendors, and broadcast partners to manage content acquisition, encoding, and distribution. You will contribute to and refine existing workflows as the product evolves. This role demands a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, to support live events across global time zones.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a live event day manager ensuring Apple quality standards and smooth streaming operations through the platform for viewers.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of a broadcast master control facility, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Supervise broadcast operators and quality control.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams (internal & external).
  • Monitor signal flow, troubleshoot issues, and implement stabilization measures.
  • Coordinate with engineering and production for optimal signal quality and disaster recovery.
  • Understand and adhere to SOPs, contributing to updates as needed.
  • Maintain a highly flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, to accommodate live events across various time zones. Broadcast schedules fluctuate based on event locations.
  • Up to 25% + travel required; both domestic and international.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A proven track record of experience in broadcasting or streaming in a high-tech multimedia environment.
  • Significant experience working with technical teams, digital media workflows and live production environments.
  • Skilled in vendor management, including contract negotiation, performance monitoring, and relationship building.
  • Experience with change management processes.
  • Excellent communication skills for leading meetings, escalating issues, and reporting to executives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Proficiency in time management and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven proficiency in broadcast signal analysis, cloud-based solutions, and distribution technologies (CDN, SCTE, DAI).
  • Proven understanding of live television production, including switchers, audio mixing, graphics, and IP-based transport (SMPTE 2110, HLS, SRT, RTMP, etc.).
  • Proven industry experience of working with broadcast regulations, encryption systems, and compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of video and audio quality control methodologies and tools (waveform monitors, vectorscopes, audio loudness meters).
  • Familiarity with automation systems used in broadcast environments.
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution in a broadcast environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with cloud-based video workflows and platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Understanding of networking protocols and technologies relevant to media transport (TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast).
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and metadata management.
  • Experience managing and mentoring broadcast operations teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and new technologies.
  • Experience with live sports broadcasts is beneficial.
