Overview
Summary: We are looking for a world-class mechanical engineer with experience in leading projects to join a team that is making a big difference in the future of Apple. A successful candidate will develop new technologies and architect novel opto-mechanical modules and educate a broad audience at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs. The team includes mechanical engineers, optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, offering an opportunity to influence and learn from a diverse group of experts.
Responsibilities
- Design micro-mechanical systems using 3D CAD, such as NX, AutoCAD or SolidWorks
- Craft micro-actuation hardware and lead various projects
- Model and characterize complex mechanical systems using FEA packages such as COMSOL or Ansys
- Use structural analysis and CAD tools to architect new modules and assess their performance and limitations
- Identify and implement critical metrics and specifications to deliver performance that matters to product specifications, and associated characterization techniques
- Influence product-level decisions using tools and methods such as simulation, prototyping, and lab characterization
- Build custom unit tests, metrology hardware, and perform hands-on measurements in the lab
- Work with suppliers to develop actuation modules, bring up test platforms, and perform statistical analysis of data to determine performance and quality
- Visit suppliers to support engineering builds and help with failure analysis activities
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced experience in related fields
- Consistent record, from early stage development through to manufacture and delivery
- Hands-on experience in modeling, prototyping, conducting design experiments, and analytical data processing
- Experience with running finite element analysis, implementing failure analysis, and performing hands-on measurements, preferably for actuator applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor\\\’s or Master or higher degree (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent, with extensive years of working experience, or PhD in a relevant field with proven years of working experience
- Willingness to pick up novel tasks and acquire new skills is desirable
- Experience managing domestic and international vendors is a huge plus
