The Image Quality and Qualification - Technology team develops novel imaging technologies and new software features for the next generation of Apple cameras. Our goal is to improve image quality and enable new capture experiences by trying new things. We start by exploring new ideas, testing them by building proof-of-concept demos, reviewing images to confirm customer benefits, and then implementing the best ideas in our ecosystem. We delivered algorithms that drive some of the iPhone cameras’ groundbreaking features such as HDR photography. We are looking for an enthusiastic imaging scientist who can help us build new camera technologies and experiences. This position focuses on the identification, exploration, and prototyping of image processing technologies for future Apple products. You will work on small and large cross-functional projects and interface with other software and hardware engineering teams. A successful candidate will not only need to identify new tech and be able to problem-solve outside of their respective technical area, but also educate a broad audience of people at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs.
Your Job Responsibilities Will Include:
- Inventing and implementing innovative image processing algorithms or user experiences.
- Exploring novel imaging applications and features integrating hardware and software, demonstrating feasibility through modeling and prototyping.
- Collaborating with your team members to prepare presentations, talks, and disclosures to explain your inventions.
- Collaborating with other teams in software, firmware, and hardware to ensure the highest possible image quality.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong engineering background in color imaging, image processing, or image quality.
- Deep knowledge of digital photography and camera components.
- Prior experience prototyping new technologies, developing algorithms and writing proof of concept software.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong presentation and communication skills.
- Experience in HDR imaging, from capture to display, and tone mapping.
- Knowledge of optics, signal processing, color perception, human vision system, mathematical modeling.
- Experience with digital photography, color and imaging processing pipelines and architectural designs, including graphics and rendering.
- Capable of prototyping, conducting design of experiments, and analytical data processing.
- Familiarity with ISO/ICC and related imaging standards.
