A permanent position for a Senior Design Manager located in Hertfordshire (mix of office & site-based, approximately 45 minutes from the office) with flexible working options. The salary is approximately £85,000-£95,000 basic (depending on experience), plus a comprehensive package including car or allowance, healthcare, performance bonus, pension, and more.

An award-winning Tier 1 Main Contractor with a busy pipeline of work across the region is looking for a Senior Design Manager to join the business, working on a new £200m mixed-use development project in Bedfordshire, with a programme of work spanning approximately 4 years. The project features highly complex civil and structural elements, including extensive substructure works.

The Senior Design Manager will be involved in managing the design process from early feasibility and planning stages through to on-site coordination and delivery. This is a unique opportunity to join a truly flagship major project in the local area at the early stages.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee technical compliance and design management, focusing primarily on early feasibility and procurement stages.
  • Monitor on-site design coordination and manage the performance of external consultants.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the design team, client, and on-site delivery team.
  • Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
  • Drive an efficient design process aligned with project timelines and commercial targets.
  • Support innovation in design and construction methodologies.
  • Maintain a process-driven approach, strong technical understanding of construction, and keen attention to detail.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous Civil or Structural engineering design management experience is essential.
  • Candidates from a multi-disciplinary consultancy, a specialist civil/structural business, or a main contracting background will be highly considered.
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the construction industry.
