About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Waste Resource Management Team Leader to join a busy Waste Operations team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced supervisor to lead frontline operational teams, ensuring the efficient delivery of waste collection, street cleansing, household recycling centre, and bin delivery services across the Borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and supervising operational waste teams across a range of waste management services
- Supporting the Waste Supervisor in the day-to-day management of employees, vehicles, plant, and equipment
- Managing staff rotas, attendance, performance, training, and development
- Ensuring compliance with Health Safety legislation, COSHH, manual handling procedures, and risk assessments
- Investigating accidents and incidents, completing reports, and liaising with the Health Safety team where required
- Monitoring operational performance and producing management information, cleanliness surveys, and health safety assessments
- Supporting the delivery of waste collection, street cleansing, and household recycling centre services
- Responding to customer queries and complaints to ensure excellent service delivery
- Assisting with service improvement initiatives and helping to develop recycling centre operations
- Deputising for the Waste Supervisor as required
- Supporting emergency operations, including adverse weather responses where necessary
Essential Criteria
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades A–C) including English and Maths, or equivalent OR A minimum of 2 years relevant experience if the above academic qualifications are not held
- A minimum of 1 years relevant supervisory experience within areas such as waste collection, street cleansing, or household recycling centre operations
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- The ability to work with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of Health Safety legislation, including manual handling
- Competence in Microsoft Office and Windows applications
- A full current driving licence or access to suitable transport to carry out the duties of the role
Desirable Criteria
- Accredited First Aid qualification
- Accredited Fire Warden Certificate
- Certificate of Technical Competence in Recycling Centre Operations
- Experience dealing with employee relations issues within a unionised environment
- Knowledge of waste management and cleansing legislation
