Responsibilities:
- As a member of the Arts and Culture team, contribute to the effective delivery of operational objectives of the Arts and Culture Section.
- Assess and deliver the needs of visiting companies, co-ordinate, communicate and facilitate their technical requirements.
- Ensure Health and Safety standards required by law are observed and maintained.
- Supervise relevant technical activities onstage and backstage in line with Health and Safety Policy.
- Undertake and review risk assessments, advising the Technical Manager of any suggested improvements.
- Work as show crew and supervise Casual Technicians, promoting good working practice and high production values.
- Mentor, support and train peers, ensuring casual and freelance staff can carry out their duties effectively.
- Schedule casual and freelance staff ensuring a full complement of staff as per operational requirements.
- As lead production technician, supervise all technical aspects of performances and events.
- Meet with and undertake inductions and Health and Safety briefings with visiting companies.
- Liaise with internal department officers and external hire clients regarding technical assistance.
- Ensure A.V. and technical requirements/resources for conferencing areas are regularly inspected and operational.
- Design, co-ordinate, arrange technical equipment/resources for cultural events.
- Assist the Technical Manager in the administration of the Technical Department.
- Monitor budgets and expenditure for staffing, supplies, resources, and consumables.
- Maintain supplies of materials/equipment and organise storage.
- Arrange the annual and periodic maintenance of all theatrical technical equipment.
- Make recommendations to the Technical Manager regarding replacing/updating equipment.
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- A Degree in a Technical Theatre related course or 5 years’ proven technical experience in a theatre or production company.
- Minimum of 3 years’ proven technical experience in a theatre or production company.
- Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation in relation to technical theatre.
- Specialist expertise in stage management, live audio, event lighting or visual projection/display.
- Good knowledge in at least 2 of the following: Sound, Lighting, Audio Visual Projection, Counterweight Flying Systems, Computer Networking, Radio Microphone Systems.
- Satisfactory level of fitness for physical and manual handling elements.
- Full current driving licence or access to suitable transport.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as scheduled.
- Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work as an effective team member and on own initiative.
- Ability to work to a brief and problem solve.
Desirable:
- Hold an additional relevant qualification.
- Experience dealing with the public.
- Supervisory experience within an Arts and Theatre environment.
- Experience of counterweight flying systems including maintenance.
- Working knowledge of ETC Eos Lighting Desk, Allen & Heath dLive Sound Desk, Figure 53 Qlab for audio and video.
