Location: East Belfast

Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00am–3:00pm or 9:30am–3:30pm)

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £24,000 – £26,000 (FTE, pro rata for 30 hours)

On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a HR Assistant to join their busy and supportive team based in East Belfast on a permanent, part time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous HR or administrative experience who is looking to develop their career in a varied, generalist HR role. This is a fully office-based position where you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the HR function, ensuring a smooth and professional experience for employees across the business.

The Role

You will provide comprehensive administrative support across all areas of HR, including recruitment, employee lifecycle processes, compliance, and HR systems. This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working across multiple areas of HR rather than specialising in just one.

Key Responsibilities

  • HR Administration
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records
    • Prepare employment contracts, letters, onboarding documents, and HR reports
    • Support payroll processes with employee updates (starters, leavers, changes, absences)
    • Monitor and record employee absence
    • Respond to HR queries, escalating where appropriate
  • Recruitment & Onboarding
    • Advertise roles and manage applications
    • Coordinate interviews and candidate communications
    • Prepare offer letters and onboarding documentation
    • Support employee induction processes
  • HR Operations & Compliance
    • Track probation periods and reviews
    • Support HR policy implementation and communication
    • Ensure compliance with data protection and employment legislation
    • Carry out right-to-work checks and pre-employment screening
  • Employee Lifecycle Support
    • Support contract changes, internal moves, and probation reviews
    • Process leavers and maintain accurate records
  • Employee Relations Support
    • Assist with administration of employee relations matters
    • Schedule meetings and prepare documentation
    • Support case tracking and follow-ups
  • General
    • Contribute to HR projects and initiatives
    • Maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively within the team

About You

Essential:

  • At least 1–2 years’ administrative experience within an HR or people-focused environment
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using systems
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Desirable:

  • Experience using an HR system (HRIS)
  • CIPD Level 3 (or working towards) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practice
