Emergency Gas Service Engineer in the Greater Belfast Area. Permanent, Full-Time position, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, 37.5 hours per week.

Salary: £26,753 - £34,253 DOE + On-Call Allowance & Emergency Call-Out Payments.

The Role

This position combines planned gas engineering works with emergency response responsibilities. Initially, you will work standard office hours, gaining familiarity with systems, procedures, and operational requirements. Following training, you will participate in the organisation's emergency 24-hour standby rota, providing critical out-of-hours emergency response support when required. You will be responsible for ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally, and in compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, inspect and exchange domestic gas meters and associated gas assets
  • Deliver a safe and effective emergency gas response service
  • Participate in the out-of-hours emergency standby rota
  • Carry out gas asset maintenance in accordance with regulated standards and operating procedures
  • Undertake gas work in line with ACS, IGEM and industry regulations
  • Complete documentation and reports associated with all work carried out
  • Report unsafe situations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken
  • Account for materials, equipment and assets used during allocated work
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, PPE and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and legislation
  • Provide exceptional customer service when attending homes and customer premises
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors and partner organisations
  • Participate in ongoing training, development and performance reviews
  • Undertake Gas Emergency Response training leading to participation in the 24/7 emergency response rota

About You

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Relevant IT skills
  • Professional, flexible and customer-focused approach to work
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards

Desirable Criteria

  • ACS qualifications (CCN1 or CMA1 + REGT1)
  • Minimum two years' recognised apprenticeship experience in domestic gas utilisation, heating and plumbing, including fault diagnosis
  • Experience within the gas industry
  • STEM-based qualification
  • NVQ qualification
  • Customer service experience
  • Commercial gas utilisation experience
  • Experience working within utilities, emergency response, or regulated environments
