About the Role
This role will support the Senior Management Team through the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and will play a key role in maintaining strong financial control across the business. This is a maternity cover position with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
Job Purpose
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for the accurate processing of purchase and sales ledger transactions, issuing purchase orders, processing monthly payroll, completing bank reconciliations, maintaining financial records, supporting reporting activities, and leading credit control. The role will also support a new accounting system implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate computerised purchase and sales ledgers
- Handle customer payment queries via telephone and email
- Raise purchase orders and liaise with suppliers
- Complete multi-currency bank reconciliations and ensure accurate allocation to customer and supplier accounts
- Lead an efficient and effective credit control function
- Support operations with stock management activities
- Assist in the preparation of monthly management and financial reports
- Carry out general administrative duties to support Senior Management, Sales, and wider business operations
- Ensure work is completed in line with continuous improvement objectives
- Provide flexible cover for team members during training and testing of a new accounting system
- Assist with data cleansing of supplier, customer, and financial records as part of system implementation
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by management
Essential Criteria
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English
- At least 1 year’s experience working in a fast-paced finance team
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an administrative role
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Word
- Experience using Management Information Systems (MIS) or ERP systems
- Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage workload effectively and work to deadlines
Desirable Criteria
- Accounting Technician or similar accounting qualification (or currently studying)
- Experience of end-to-end payroll processing
- Experience using Opera accounting software or Accura MIS
