Location: Belfast

Salary: £24.59 per hour (£47,304 per annum equivalent)

Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm

Duration: Temporary contract until the end of August 2026

About the Role: On behalf of our client, Apple Recruitment Services are currently recruiting for a Financial Reporting DP Accountant to join a busy Finance team within a public sector organisation based in Newforge. The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality financial reporting, governance, and management accounting services, ensuring compliance with HM Treasury and Department of Finance guidance and supporting effective financial management across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of Annual Reports and Accounts in accordance with HM Treasury and Department of Finance guidance, incorporating IFRS
  • Liaising with internal and external auditors, including the Northern Ireland Audit Office
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial data
  • Production of monthly and quarterly management accounting information
  • Preparation of accurate and timely financial reports for senior management and stakeholders
  • Management of financial processing functions
  • Providing professional advice and guidance to support the safeguarding of public funds and ensure regularity, probity, and value for money
  • Supporting the establishment and maintenance of internal control and governance frameworks
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of financial systems and reporting processes
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of public expenditure planning, monitoring, control, and accountability systems
  • Promoting high standards of accountability, integrity, and financial governance
  • Leading, managing, and motivating staff to support continuous improvement across the Finance function
  • Carrying out additional duties as required by management appropriate to the role

Essential Criteria:

  • Successfully passed final professional examinations and be a full current member of one of the following professional accounting bodies: Chartered Accountants Ireland, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland, The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland
  • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification practical experience gained within the last 7 years in a finance-related environment
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous experience within a public sector finance environment
  • Experience working with IFRS and public sector financial reporting requirements
  • Experience supporting audit and governance processes
