Assistant Accountant – Band 6 Location: Belfast Salary: £19.32 per hour Hours: 37 hours per week Duration: Temporary, Full-Time Working Pattern: Monday – Friday Application Deadline: 5pm 9th October 2026 Apple Recruitment are currently recruiting for an Assistant Accountant (Band 6) on behalf of a public sector organisation based in Belfast This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to play a key role in delivering day-to-day management accounting and reporting requirements, including budgetary control, financial reporting, investigation of variances and providing financial advice to senior managers and budget holders. Key Duties Support the delivery of day-to-day management accounting and financial reporting requirements for a designated division. Assist with budget setting, forecasting, monitoring and reporting of expenditure. Prepare and provide detailed management reports to senior managers and budget holders. Investigate budget variances and provide advice on appropriate corrective actions. Provide financial analysis and information to support effective financial management and decision-making. Use integrated financial management systems and associated reporting tools. Utilise advanced spreadsheet skills to analyse and present financial information. Support effective budgetary control and financial monitoring. Identify opportunities for business process improvements within a finance environment. Contribute to the implementation of process improvements to drive improved performance. Work effectively with colleagues, managers, budget holders and other stakeholders. Maintain excellent attention to detail and ensure financial information is accurate and reliable. Manage competing priorities and work accurately under pressure to meet multiple deadlines. Carry out duties in accordance with relevant organisational policies, procedures and financial requirements. Essential Criteria Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications: The final examinations of AAT or IATI; or The foundation papers of a CCAB body (or equivalent); or A relevant Bachelor’s degree, where accounting is the major component, or equivalent qualification. Applicants must also demonstrate at least 2 years’ experience in at least 3 of the following 4 areas: Experience in budget setting, forecasting, monitoring and reporting of expenditure. Experience in providing a range of financial analysis, including preparing detailed management reports for senior managers or budget holders, investigating budget variances and providing advice on necessary corrective actions. Experience in the use of an integrated financial management system, linked reporting tools and advanced spreadsheet skills. Experience in the identification and implementation of business process improvements within a finance environment to drive improved performance.
