A well-established, privately owned AdTech business in Manchester is hiring two Senior / Lead Java Developers. Its platform processes around a billion website hits a week and powers TV advertising campaigns for major UK brands and agencies. If you want large-scale data problems and real ownership rather than another CRUD app, this is worth a look.
About the role
You’ll join a close-knit team of around 10 developers and take ownership of one of the platform’s live applications. The core stack is Java, Spring and Aurora DB, with Vue.js on the front end.
This isn’t a maintenance role. There’s a two-year roadmap of serious new development ahead, including a major push into connected and addressable TV, and you’ll have a say in what gets built and in what order.
What you’ll be doing
- Building and maintaining core platform features in Java, Spring and Aurora DB
- Solving large-scale data and performance problems (think MapReduce-style processing, not standard web-app scale)
- Applying sound software design patterns across the application you own
- Shaping the product roadmap through feature development and prioritisation
- Leading sessions with clients and stakeholders, including an honest view on whether an idea can and should be built
- Planning delivery: breaking projects down, delegating work and owning outcomes
What you’ll bring
- Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring
- A track record with large datasets and performance-critical systems
- Genuine interest in machine learning or statistics-driven problem solving
- Comfortable working alongside AI coding tools such as Copilot, including for testing
- Confident communicator who can lead client and stakeholder discussions
- Experience in AdTech, MarTech or another data-intensive industry is a plus
